The Science Teachers Association of Texas (STAT) is proud to recognize excellence in and dedication to the field of science education through its annual awards program. The STAT Awards Committee is honored to announce the following educators as STAT's 2018 Statewide Award recipients. Join us to recognize them Thursday, November 1, during the general session at the 2018 Conference for the Advancement of Science Teaching.
Outstanding Science Educator of the Year Awards
The STAT Outstanding Science Teacher of the Year Awards recognize excellence in science teaching. The awards are presented to STAT members in the following categories:
- Rookie Science Teacher of the Year (first or second year of teaching)
- Elementary Science Teacher of the Year (Early Childhood–Grade 4)
- Middle School Science Teacher of the Year (Grades 5–8)
- High School Science Teacher of the Year (Grades 9–12)
The STAT Distinguished Leadership in Science Award recognizes outstanding support of science education at the district or state level by a non-teaching administrator in Early Childhood through Grade 12.
Skoog Cup College Faculty Award
The Skoog Cup College Faculty Award is presented to a faculty or staff member at a Texas college or university who has demonstrated significant contributions to and leadership in the development of quality science education. The award is presented by STAT and the Texas Tech University Howard Hughes Medical Institute Science Education Program and is named for Dr. Gerald Skoog, the Paul Whitfield Horn Professor Emeritus at Texas Tech University.
