Position Statement:

The quote “Together Everyone Achieves More” may seem almost cliché in today’s society, but I cannot think of a better way to describe the Science Teachers Association of Texas. When I first discovered this group, I felt at home among the selfless, giving science enthusiasts. I was raised to share your thoughts, ideas and talents so that everyone may have the opportunity to learn from one another and gain a greater insight. I have seen this repeatedly at the various STAT events that I have attended and with each email or phone call made.

The currents of change are once again moving swiftly and while some tense with this revelation, I realize that change is one of the many constants in our world. While there is not a perfect system, having a strong united voice speaking for our common good is imperative and I believe that everyone should help to share the burden that comes with that position. Serving as a member of the STAT executive board is not just an honor, in my eyes, but a responsibility as one of its members. I am looking forward to the collaboration that lies ahead as we continue to live out the TEAM motto and the opportunity to serve and give back to the community that has so graciously given to me.

Biographical Sketch:

Leslie Harvey entered the Education Profession 6 years ago after completing her B.S. in Education from Grand Canyon University in 2011. Fourteen years as a stay-at-home mom provided opportunities to volunteer within the public school system and with the encouragement of family and friends she returned to school to finish what she had started, her dreams of becoming a teacher.

Since landing her dream position as an elementary science teacher, Leslie has served on her district's Science Curriculum writing team for 3 years, has been a mentor teacher for novice teachers as well as for student teachers, and was Lake Pointe Elementary Teacher of the Year in 2016.
