Calling All STAT Members! Does the hot summer have you in the throes of after-school reflection?  Thinking of an interesting tidbit on teaching, or a witty observation about the life of a science teacher?  Or, do you want to get the word out to your colleagues about an important event before CAST 2010?

Submit to the August STATellite: your last chance to discuss your experiences, your teaching tips, or your news before November and this year’s CAST.  It’s the biggest STATellite of the year with the largest readership.  It’s also easy to submit:  simply attach your article and send to stat@bizaustin.rr.com, where our editor will take your work and bring it to the published page.  Submit your articles by August 1st to be considered for publication.

Articles for the newsletter should be a maximum of 2 single-spaced pages. Articles may be edited for length.  We always encourage pictures to be submitted with your articles.  Pictures submitted as attachments, rather than embedded in word documents, are preferred.

STAT Members Receive Top Honors.  STAT President-Elect Ross Ann Hill was among the science educators honored on Wednesday, June 30, by the Texas Regional Collaboratives at the 16th Annual Meeting in Austin.  President-Elect Hill received The Cynthia and George Mitchell Foundation 2010 Science Teaching Excellence Award.

“This is a testament to the quality of the leadership involved in this association,” says STAT Executive Director, Chuck Hempstead.  “Congratulations to our leaders and CAST presenters on this recognition.”

Science Teaching Excellence Awards were also presented to STAT members Peggy Eddy, of Aldine ISD, and Sandra Elms, of Ector County ISD.

One of the evening’s high honors, the 2010 TRC Distinguished Service Award, was presented to Keith Mitchell in recognition of his longstanding and exceptional support of teachers’ professional development, the improvement of science and math education, and the goals of the TRC.
