Proposals
Welcome to the Official CAST 2012 Proposal Site!
Submit Your 2012 Proposal Here
Proposals Site Open Feb 15 2012- May 7, 2012
Please read the details below before submitting your presentation.
Short Courses – Short Courses are 3 or 6 hour courses that allow teachers a more in-depth look at a particular topic or activity. Short courses are not included in conference registration and attendees must reserve their spot and pay additional fees determined by the presenter and STAT. Short course presenters must not make a profit from their presentation and the requested fees should cover the cost of supplies only.
Field Trips – Field trips may be half-day or full day educational tours or cultural tours specific to the Corpus Christi area. We recommend that field trips still be aligned to the TEKs.
How do I submit a workshop, short course or field trip?
- Read and understand the Presenter Terms and Conditions. You will be asked to confirm your acceptance of these policies before your proposal can be submitted.
- You will need a username and login to create a proposal. If you have submitted before you can use the same login information. If you need to create a login please do so on the left "create new user."
- Prepare two descriptions for your presentation. One will be judged by the local committee (limit of 1500 characters, including spaces) and the second will be a brief summary used for the printed program (limit of 500 characters, including spaces).
- Review the TEKS associated with your presentation. You will be asked to fill in the TEKS that best apply to your proposal. More information can be found here.
- Review STAT’s safety standards. All proposals will be judged on the safety requirements found here.
- Make your proposal as specific to subject matter and grade level as possible. With over 7,000 attendees from a wide variety of scientific disciplines, this will help us schedule your session in the appropriate rooms, and help attending teachers determine the best educational content for them at the conference.
- Please spell check your work!
- Upload up to 128MB of hand-outs or PowerPoint slides of your presentation for attendees to view after the conference. Please note that, if accepted, your handouts will be viewed online by attendees two weeks after the conference. Your grade will not be affected, but we strongly encourage you to take advantage of this option.
How do I increase my chances of being accepted?
- Review the proposal grading rubric to understand how the local committee will calculate your acceptance.
- Use the Sample Applications to prepare your proposal before filling out the online form. Once you have clicked the submit button you will not be able to edit your proposal, so please make sure your proposal is ready.
- Be willing to present your course more than once. Due to the nature of CAST 2012, many courses will be held more than once to accommodate more people. This means less proposals will be accepted, the application process will be more competitive, and grading preference may be given to presenters who are willing to present their course multiple times.
