Fall Workshop, September 24 – 26, 2010
DIGGIN’ DEAD BEASTS IN A PIT

Come join the members of TMEA as they explore the ancient Texas Gulf coast plain. Imagine what the coast would have looked like 50,000 years ago as the glaciers grew and retreated, sea level rose and then fell. Mammoths, rhinoceroses, horses, bison and other large grazing animals roamed in large herds back and forth a lush and wet coastal prairie. Rivers and streams would have flowed to the sea where little water passes today. As the sea level adjusted to the glacial fluctuations large stream terraces and deposits would have filled valleys 10’s of miles wide and hundreds of feet deep. Periodic floods would have inundated the landscape drowning hundreds of animals and piling up their bones in large piles only to be covered by the next round of stream deposition.

These fossilized bones are now being uncovered for all to see and study. Join us as we collect these fossils in Robstown. The best part is you get to keep what you collect. Don’t miss out on this once in a lifetime opportunity to learn about the ancient environment and collect your own specimens.

Hurry! Space is limited.
